Amey increases teaching capacity using modular build solution at Castleview Primary
Amey, a provider of critical facilities and asset management services for the UK Public Sector has recently completed works on a new teaching facility at Castleview Primary School, Edinburgh. The project has enhanced the schools teaching environment by providing an additional six high-specification general purpose classrooms.
Edinburgh City Council commissioned Amey’s project team to develop proposals for a temporary modular solution that would provide additional learning space for 190 pupils, increasing the floor space of the school campus by approximately 20%.
As the existing facilities management provider across Edinburgh’s schools’ estate, Amey was appointed as principal designer and worked with its specialist supply chain to develop a state-of-the-art modular building proposal that was able to meet the significant challenges posed by the limited land available to the client.
Given the site restrictions, the proposed solution was provided over two storeys, with an internal passenger lift being provided to ensure full accessibility could be achieved.
Construction started in early December 2022 and the new classrooms have now been handed over to the school - and are already being used and enjoyed by the pupils.
Amey Head of Projects, Martin Finn, commented: “It has been great to work collaboratively with our stakeholders to develop this modular build solution. The team’s innovation and enthusiasm has resulted in The View 2 at Castleview, where we have again demonstrated our ability to deliver innovative but practical solutions that increase headcounts, within operational school environments.”
The installation of the units was undertaken over a mid-term break, with the building being wind and watertight in just over 4 days.
