Amey supports the MOJ on their journey to a Net Zero prison estate
Amey, a provider of complex facilities and asset management services to the public sector, is supporting the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) to meet their Net Zero commitments by leading on a SMART meter installation project across 36 of its prison sites.
The project will help deliver a number of benefits across the estate. Governors and estate managers will be given the ability to gain detailed information about their current energy usage and be able to identify areas where energy is being wasted. Using data from the SMART meters, the Amey team can then work alongside the client to create a plan that will help reduce energy usage.
SMART meters also help with energy resilience by reducing the chances of power cuts. This is incredibly important in a secure environment such as a prison.
Amey, who went live with the SMART meter programme this month, already delivers facilities and estate management services, including planned and reactive maintenance, cleaning, and project management into 60 Prisons on behalf of the MOJ and HMPPS. It was awarded the project following collaborative discussions on energy transition with Amey.
Speaking of the project, Business Director, Peter Mathieson said: “As an organisation we are completely focused on supporting our clients on their energy transition journeys. By helping them take small, incremental steps to improve usage and data capturing, we can support them in their wider strategy around Net Zero. The MOJ and HMPPS are committed to creating a greener estate and we can help them achieve this.”
Geoff McManus, Account Director responsible for the delivery of the project commented: “This is just one example where Amey’s project team is advising the client on the topic of energy and carbon management. We know that the public sector has big ambitions to meet on their journey to Net Zero and our team of experts can help them access funding and make smarter decisions around lifecycle spend.”
Amey is also working with the MOJ and HMPPS to apply for Government funding that will enable the delivery of more energy and carbon reduction schemes.
