Amey is awarded contract extension for Ministry of Justice FM prison services

Amey, a provider of complex facilities management (FM) services across the public estate, has recently been awarded a contract extension by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) for the delivery of its prison maintenance programme in the North of the country.

The extension, which will run until March 2026, is worth up to £430m and will see Amey continue with FM delivery across 61 prisons. The organisation was named preferred bidder when the contract was originally awarded in 2015.

The estate includes a varied building portfolio of secure facilities including some historic premises.  The facilities include secure premises for 35,000 inmates including all Categories of prison.  Amey is responsible for maintaining service continuity and enhanced compliance requirements to support HMPPS in its core mission.

Amey Business Director for Justice, Pete Mathieson, said: “Our team of expert engineers have an in- depth knowledge of our client’s estate and the complex needs of those who are housed within them.  Over the last five years we have worked hard to not only deliver a service that is compliant, but that works to enhance the lives of the individuals who use them. We are pleased to be continuing that journey and working with the Ministry of Justice to develop and enhance their estates strategy.”

Amey also works alongside the HMPPS and MOJ to offer rehabilitative opportunities across the contract. This is currently achieved through Amey’s CRED programme which works alongside prisoners to enhance their living conditions while offering the vocational training and skills to support rehabilitation on release.
