Amey’s prison FM team celebrates zero non-conformances

The Amey team responsible for delivering integrated facilities services on behalf of client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Services (HMPPS) and the Ministry of Justice (MOJ), recently excelled in a recent British Standard Institution (BSI) audit and passed with zero non-conformances despite operating in challenging prison environments.

The BSI is used by organisations across the UK to ensure their teams are operating according to contract requirements and protocols. The team at HMP Leeds spent the day with the auditor who carried out a full check on the site’s working processes, including health and safety procedures, security systems management, daily management systems, control of working areas and safe working practices, central stores management, and waste, recycling and cleaning.

The process for implementing and recording Point of Work risk assessments was scrutinised and a check was made on the site’s risk assessments to ensure they are fit for purpose. The steps and ladders booking process was also checked along with the training records of the employees who use them. Every process and procedure was reviewed, from reactive and planned maintenance order sheets, to Site Manager’s monthly compliance checks.

Finally, the auditor asked our team for their opinions on how safe they felt working at HMP Leeds and was interested to hear how the team implement Amey’s Zero Code into their everyday working practices.

Pete Mathieson, Amey Operations Director, was delighted with the result, and said: “HMP Leeds is one of the most demanding prisons across our contract and our teams consistently achieve excellent results under very difficult circumstances. We have a top team and everyone is committed to delivering an exceptional public service both for our client and the end user.”

Amey currently delivers FM maintenance and lifecycle services across 61 prisons.
