Amey provides new specialist facilities for Lockerbie community

Amey Secure Infrastructure, a provider of critical services for the public sector, has started work on an outdoor classroom and specialist play equipment at Lockerbie Primary School and Academy.

Amey’s team is managing the installation of both projects, and going forward the company will be responsible for ongoing maintenance.

The new facilities are inclusive in offering all young people the opportunity to play. The equipment, which is located within the school grounds, includes a variety of swings, a trampoline and a whirl -- all of which are accessible to wheelchair users.

The projects are due for completion by August 2022 when an opening ceremony will be organised. The equipment will then be available for the school’s pupils and the local community.

John Paterson, Operation Director for Scotland, Amey Secure Infrastructure, said: “At Amey we’re proud to work on projects that have a positive impact on communities, and that is something that is especially true here. We look forward to seeing the two areas in action as we continue to work with Lockerbie Primary School and Academy going forward.”

A Dumfries and Galloway Council spokesperson said: “Having outdoor spaces for pupils to play and learn is important for their development and to help them flourish. The outdoor classroom and play equipment that Amey is installing at Lockerbie School are exciting additions that will really benefit the children who get to enjoy them.”
