Amey and partners make a big community impact in Bradford
Over 40 Amey employees from across their Bradford Schools, Streetlighting, National Highways and Secure Infrastructure operations joined forces with their supply chain partners HSS Hire, Bell Group UK, Paint360, Antac, and PPG Paints to volunteer their time to spruce up the Springfield Youth Centre in Bradford in readiness to its reopening to provide vital support to young people within the community.
Throughout the week, the team worked tirelessly, painting internal classrooms, weeding, litter picking and grass cutting to give the centre a fresh new look that will help inspire and provide a safe space and bright learning environment for young people.
The Springfield Youth Community Centre has a mission to help young people explore, dream, believe and achieve. They do this by providing space and opportunities for young people at risk from the impact of low attainment, poverty, and criminal activity to take part in recreational, educational, cultural, work readiness and sporting programmes.
Cllr Jeanette Sunderland, Chair of Trustees of the Springfield Youth Centre, said: “The work done by Amey and their partners has been amazing. It’s helped lift the building and given it a new look making it a great place to play and learn. We met some amazing people who freely gave their time and expertise to help us with our refurbishment. I was overwhelmed by their generosity of personal time, commitment, and gifts of materials. The Springfield Youth Centre is undergoing a real step-change in our services for children and young people. Amey and their team have really made a difference to the young people we support and to us.”
Craig McGilvray, Managing Director, Amey Secure Infrastructure, said: “At Amey, we aim to leave a lasting and positive legacy in the communities we serve. Giving our employees time off to volunteer and working with our supply chain partners is one way to build relationships and help transform local communities.”
“On a personal note, it has been fantastic to take time away from the day job to work with our contract teams and supply chain to make a real and visible impact on a worthwhile project that will benefit so many by creating a safe, accessible and welcoming space for vulnerable young people in Bradford to learn and participate in social activities. I would encourage everyone to volunteer some time and support local communities.”
Colette Coulter, Account Manager, Bradford Schools, Amey Secure Infrastructure, said: “At Amey, we are encouraged to take time off to volunteer and give back to the local community. Having reached out to Bradford City Council during one of our monthly meetings we were given the contact of Cllr Jeanette Sunderland and an opportunity was presented at the Springfield Centre. On visiting, it was clear that Amey could make a real positive difference in creating and improving a space for local vulnerable children.
“I was overwhelmed with the response from accounts across our whole business including Amey Defence, National Highways England FM operations and the Bradford Street Lighting team that volunteered their time. It is a credit to the team in Bradford Schools to have built such great relationships with supply chain over the years that meant the supply of materials, equipment and labour was donated over the week.
“I am extremely proud of the work that was completed over the week and can only encourage more employees to take the time to give back to their communities”
