Amey committed to science-based targets
Amey, one of the UK’s largest infrastructure services and engineering companies, has joined the Business Ambition for 1.5°C Campaign, the global movement of leading companies working to limit global temperature rise.
This campaign brings together the world’s largest group of companies committed to working to climate targets based on the scientific evidence. It also means Amey becomes part of the UN backed campaign – Race to Zero.
Amey’s Chief Executive Officer Amanda Fisher, said: “Committing to set science-based targets is crucial if we are to collectively limit global warming to 1.5°C.”
“I am delighted that Amey has joined this campaign. This ambitious goal to halve global emissions by 2030 will permeate through all that Amey does, from providing innovative solutions, to supporting clients to reach their own carbon reduction targets, through to creating more environmentally sustainable infrastructure for the communities we serve.”
Evidence so far suggests that following a 1.5°C compliant business model is possible and has positive impacts as the global economy undergoes a transition to a net-zero future.
Amey has already set two key ambitions that they are driving towards:
- Achieve an absolute reduction in its emissions by 80% by 2035 based on a 2019 baseline
- Be fully net zero by 2040
Amey will work with SBTi to validate and report on these targets.
As world leaders prepare for COP26, the SBTi campaign is encouraging businesses to share innovations and learnings and governments to set long-term, clear policies on climate change that will give confidence to invest in technologies and markets that will bring about a zero-carbon future.
