Amey reveals positive impact of partnership with DofE as 25 employees sign up
Leading public service provider Amey has encouraged 25 of its young employees to sign up for the Gold DofE Award (DofE) in business. The 2020 Amey and DofE partnership report, launched this week, reveals the 2021 cohort join more than 500 young employees that have started their DofE with Amey since 2010, contributing more than 13,000 volunteering hours and raising £126,000 for their communities.
The Gold DofE Award is an 18-month programme that pushes the limits of and develops young people’s key skills and attributes to boost their career prospects. The opportunity takes young employees out of their comfort zone and aligns with their personal development within Amey, where they set their own challenges and identify where they’d like to improve in their self-development.
Amey is committed to supporting its young people and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award provides essential structure, focus and purpose for young people aged 14-25, especially post Covid-19.
Amanda Fisher, Chief Executive, Amey, commented, “Amey has a long history with, and are proud partners of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. We have seen first-hand the powerful impact the challenges and opportunities its self-development programme has had on our own young employees. Strengthening the life skills of young people is even more vital when the Covid-19 pandemic has shaken our understanding of what is normal and created so many uncertainties.”
Ruth Marvel, Chief Executive, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, “Amey’s support has enabled us to continue supporting young people to work towards their Awards throughout the pandemic, providing essential structure, connections and sense of purpose at a time when most young people’s normal support structures were cruelly stripped away. Through your incredible support you have also helped to level the playing field for young people who are marginalised and excluded. Amey’s support has enabled an incredible 1,829 young people to do their DofE who otherwise would not have been able to access these life-changing opportunities.
“Your investment has equipped young people with essential skills for life and work and helped to increase their confidence, self-belief and resilience at a time when young people’s mental health and well-being is a national priority. Working together, DofE and Amey are transforming the lives of young people and we couldn’t be prouder of all that we have achieved this year.”
