Amey celebrates RoSPA success

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accident (RoSPA) has awarded Amey four gold awards, a President’s Award and a prestigious commendation in the Public Service and Local Government Sector Award, recognising the outstanding work and continual improvements being made across all aspects of health, safety and wellbeing.

Organisations receiving a RoSPA Award are recognised as being world-leaders in health and safety practices. Every year, nearly 2,000 entrants compete to achieve the highest possible accolade in what is the UK’s longest-running health and safety industry awards.

Amey has scooped the top awards in the following business areas:

Secure Infrastructure

  • RoSPA Gold – this is the fourth year in a row that Secure Infrastructure has achieved gold for its facilities management and defence operations.

Amey Consulting

  • RoSPA President’s Award (12 consecutive Golds)  this is the third straight year that Amey Consulting has achieved the President’s Award.

Transport Infrastructure

  • RoSPA Commended in the Public Service & Local Government Sector Award (Rail) - this award is presented in place of the sustained gold award in recognition of Rail’s continued high achievement.
  • RoSPA Gold Award (Power Major Projects) – this is the first time that the team have entered RoSPA as an individual sector.
  • RoSPA Gold Award (Highways)this is the third consecutive year that Highways has achieved this award.

Utilities

  • RoSPA Gold – this is the eighth consecutive year that Utilities has secured gold.

Allan Shanks, HSEQ Director at Amey, said: “Being recognised by RoSPA for our work in Secure Infrastructure, Transport Infrastructure, Utilities and Consulting with four gold awards, a President’s award and a commendation in the Public Service and Local Government award are fantastic achievements and a real testament to the hard work and importance our people give to safety and wellbeing.

“2020 saw many of our teams serve as critical workers during the coronavirus pandemic. It’s our robust health and safety practices that empower our teams to take responsibility for their health, safety and wellbeing and make sure that our teams are kept safe and well while at work. These awards are down to their hard work, and I’m delighted it has been recognised.”

Julia Small, RoSPA’s achievements director, said: “The RoSPA Awards scheme is the longest-running of its kind in the UK, but it receives entries from organisations across the globe, making it one of the most sought-after achievement awards for health and safety worldwide.

“RoSPA is very proud of the achievements of its entrants, and with this award we recognise the best of the best, those organisations that have gone the extra mile, raising the bar for the delivery of safety in the workplace. Employees, wherever they may be should be able to go to work safe in the knowledge that they will return home unharmed and healthy at the end of every day.

“Our RoSPA Award winners are central to achieving this goal. By entering they are driving up standards and setting new safety benchmarks for organisations across the world. Currently, around 7million people are directly impacted by the RoSPA Awards, but the scheme’s global influence is even wider – with nearly 2000 organisations from 46 countries represented this year. I would also particularly want to thank our main sponsor NEBOSH, the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health – for their continued support for the 16th consecutive year.”
