Amey exceeds SSAFA fundraising target thanks to a donation from Ferrovial, Amey’s parent company
With Armed Forces Day taking place on Saturday 27th June, Amey is extremely proud to be recognised as one of the largest corporate supporters of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity. In 2015 Amey committed to raising £250,000 over five years to support SSAFA’s mentoring programme, providing practical and personal support to those leaving the Services and struggling to make the transition back into civilian life.
Since then, Amey employees and supply chain partners have been working tirelessly to support the charity. They’ve taken part in marathons, trekked across the Sahara Desert and cycled the length of the UK. Others have held coffee mornings, taken part in online raffles, organised family friendly events and opened on-site tuck shops. A number of employees have also become specialist mentors themselves, while others have used their Service experience to help mentors better understand how it can feel to leave the military community.
In April 2020, Ferrovial, Amey’s parent company, announced the creation of the Ferrovial Together COVID-19 fund, which has so far donated more than £6.5m to charities and organisations across the world. Ferrovial's initiative has so far given over £900,000 to UK charities alone, including the Lighthouse Club Construction Charity, SSAFA and the Trussell Trust.
SSAFA was gifted almost £44,000, which when added to the amount raised by Amey over the last five years totals £287,128.12.
Craig McGilvray, Managing Director for Secure Infrastructure, said “I’m delighted to have exceeded our fundraising target for SSAFA. We will continue to support the charity, which is a perfect fit for our business, focused as we are on supporting our Armed Forces. It is great to see the efforts shown by everyone who works for and with Amey in helping to reach this figure for the charity, and by Ferrovial who helped us over the line. Our teams work every day to provide a service fit for our Armed Forces and their families and the fact that so many have taken up challenges to continue their support outside of work is great.”
Sir Andrew Gregory, CEO of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, added “Amey has been a dedicated partner of SSAFA and our work with the Armed Forces community for many years, and reaching this momentous milestone of £250,000 is a testament to their dedication to our cause. It is thanks to generosity like this that we can continue to deliver vital support to any member of the military family in need – especially during these current challenging times. I would like to offer my personal thanks to Amey for their collaboration with our charity that will have helped countless men, women and families.”
