Amey forms alliance with BuildForce to support Service leavers and Veterans

Amey has a long association with the Armed Forces and recognises the transferable skills that Service leavers and veterans have such as project management, leadership and quick and confident decision making. With around 14,000 personnel leaving the Forces each year we’re keen to tap into this pool of talent and we are delighted to have formed an alliance with BuildForce, an industry led programme that aims to reduce the skills gap in the construction industry by recruiting ex-military personnel.

Building on our commitment to the Armed Forces covenant, our teams will be working closely with BuildForce to provide opportunities for Service leavers and Veterans to engage with our business. With the help of a network of Amey BuildForce mentors spread across the UK, we’ll be organising site visits, work placements and providing guidance and support with CV writing and mock interviews – all with the aim of offering suitable employment positions not only within Amey but also within our vast supply chain.

Around 10% of our workforce across our Defence contracts come from a Forces background, and many more employees have worked closely with the military for many years – these are the people who have the experience and the passion to help Service leavers make the next move in their careers and to support them as they transition into a new and sometimes daunting industry.

Tim Redfern, Amey’s Managing Director, Defence, and ex-Seaman Officer in the Royal Navy, is delighted to be the nominated Amey BuildForce Ambassador and having signed the BuildForce Veterans Alliance Charter in December, will be providing direction and support throughout the programme.

Caroline Logan, BuildForce Programme Director, said: “We are delighted to welcome Amey as a new member and look forward to working with them to support Service leavers and Veterans in their journey to gain employment and further connect within their network.

Tim Redfern added: “With an ever-increasing skills gap in the construction industry, we are keen for Service leavers and Veterans to see Amey as a Forces friendly organisation and one that encourages and welcomes them as they make their transition into a civilian career. Our partnership with BuildForce will ensure that we harness the skills of our Armed Forces community and draw on their knowledge to improve the service we provide to our customers.”
