Amey replaces Carillion as schools FM provider in Barnsley


Amey has taken over the facilities management of 11 secondary schools in Barnsley which were previously run by Carillion.

The new contract will now see Amey delivering facilities management including caretaking, cleaning, grounds and building maintenance.

Amey already provides facilities management services to schools and colleges in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dumfries & Galloway, Clackmannanshire, Renfrewshire Belfast, Bradford and Northampton with the aim of creating high-quality learning environments, where students can gain meaningful skills and qualifications.

Chief Executive of Amey, Andy Milner said: “We are pleased to be taking on this contract as it further strengthens our position in the education sector. Our understanding of facilities management operations within schools means we are perfectly placed to deliver a service that is sustainable and efficient. We are looking forward to welcoming 230 new employees to our business and working with both Barnsley Local Education Partnership and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.”

This is following the unprecedented insolvency of Carillion and we thank the schools and Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council for their patience in this complicated process. David Shepherd, Director of Regeneration and Property at Barnsley Council, said: “Our primary focus is making sure every child attends a good school and is successful in their learning. We’re pleased that this appointment means jobs have been safeguarded and that services for schools will continue.”
