Amey re-signs Armed Forces Corporate Covenant

Leading public services provider Amey held a Big Brew Up on Tuesday 20th June as part of Armed Forces Day, the annual national campaign that gives everyone the opportunity to show their support for the men and women of the armed forces past and present, including currently serving troops, service families, reservists, veterans and cadets.

Held at the company's headquarters in Oxford, the tea-swilling event featured several talks from Amey employees about their experiences of the military, including former members of the armed forces, existing reservists and military spouses. These were followed by a talk from representatives of SSAFA, the military charity behind the Big Brew Up initiative.

Sir Richard Mottram, Amey's chairman, was joined by Major General Cavanagh from the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, as he re-signed the Armed Forces Corporate covenant on behalf of the company and re-affirmed its commitment to supporting the UK's Armed Forces community.

Sir Richard Mottram commented “Amey has the greatest respect and admiration for the UK's Armed Forces community and we understand the unique skillsets and commitment that former members of the Armed Forces and Reservists can bring to a company like ours. We are delighted to be demonstrating our support for them today and will remain committed to doing so in the future."

Major General Cavanagh said “Defence is very grateful that Amey have chosen to reaffirm their support for the Armed Forces community, particularly in their offer of additional paid leave for their Reservist employees. Amey’s support will boost the career prospects of those who serve and have served and attract individuals with high levels of motivation, self-discipline, confidence, communication, teamwork and leadership skills to their organisation.”

Charlie Belbin from SSAFA, added "It was an honour to witness the resigning of Amey's corporate covenant pledge and to celebrate with a SSAFA Big Brew Up. We very much look forward to strengthening our partnership with Amey going forward."

Similar events have been taking place across the UK, enabling people to come out and show their support, and giving a much-valued morale boost for Armed Forces personnel and their families. This year’s national event took place in Liverpool.

This year, Armed Forces Day was held on Saturday 24 June.
