Amey signs CIHT Diversity & Inclusion Charter
To mark this year's National Inclusion Week, leading public services provider Amey announced today that it has signed the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transport Charter for Diversity & Inclusion.
The Charter requires its signatories to recognise, respect, capitalise and celebrate diverse people at all levels of their businesses. It requires a senior nominee from each business to take responsibility for reviewing their respective organisation's performance levels at regular intervals and ensuring that the key performance indicators set by CIHT are either met or exceeded.
This announcement sees Amey join several other major employers in the transport sector for whom diversity and inclusion are key aspects of the way they operate, both in terms of their treatment of staff and the communities and customers they serve.
Andy Milner, CEO of Amey, said: "Amey is committed to tackling barriers to inclusion, whether related to age, gender, race, religion, sexual-orientation or disability. We have made a corporate commitment to continually improve our workplaces and the services we deliver to ensure they are accessible and welcoming to all people, irrespective of their background.
"The CIHT Diversity & Inclusion Charter is an important step towards that goal, particularly because it facilitates collaboration across the industry. In spite of the fact that we employ over 21,000 people at Amey and are a leading business in our industry, we know we cannot eliminate the barriers that currently prevent us from reaching our goal of full and comprehensive inclusion without collaborating with others.
"As such, we look forward to working alongside the Charter's other signatories, many of whom are longstanding clients of ours, and in the process strengthening both our businesses and our sector as a whole."
In addition to signing the CIHT Charter, Amey has also committed to achieving Leaders in Diversity status in 2017, having already achieved Investors in Diversity accreditation in 2015.
