Amey and Arup to design NSW M4 Smart Motorway project
Leading consultancy firm, Amey, will be working with Arup to design a Smart Motorway solution for the M4 in New South Wales, Australia – the first project of its kind in the region.
The M4 Smart Motorway project will introduce intelligent technology to monitor traffic conditions, manage congestion and respond to incidents in real-time on the existing M4 Western Motorway. The project aims to increase traffic throughout, with a potential reduction of peak travel times by up to 15 minutes and accidents by up to 30%.
Nicola Hindle, Amey’s Managing Director for Consulting & Rail said:
“Because we design, operate and maintain complex transport systems, we really understand how assets behave over their lifetime, and this is crucial when you’re working on infrastructure projects that will change the way people travel for decades to come.
We’re delighted to be working with Arup, to once again combine our experience of large-scale infrastructure projects both at home and internationally to enhance and develop Sydney’s road network.”
Amey and Arup already work together in the UK – combining both firms’ technical and operational expertise – after being awarded a £25 million design package for a Smart Motorway Programme on the M1.
This announcement marks the latest in a string of new business wins for Amey’s international business and follows on from recent contract wins in Qatar and the US.
