Students engineer solutions to real-world problems on Amey’s inaugural industrial placement
Masters students from Imperial College took part in Amey’s first ever Strategic Consulting Industrial Placement – a programme where the best students in the field develop cutting-edge solutions to real-world problems.
For three months, two students had access to live data from London’s Piccadilly tube line to complete their state-of-the-art research into asset management practices.
Pedro Baiz, Senior Consultant from Amey said:
“Amey is constantly working to understand and apply the most cutting-edge techniques to help maximise performance on our clients’ assets. This Industrial Placement allows us to engage with some of the brightest minds in the field, cultivate the talent of the future and identify avenues for improvement that might not have been considered before.”
Charles Houston, MEng Aeronautical Engineering student said:
“Working with Amey has allowed me to put my theoretic knowledge to the test and it’s been the ideal way to conclude my masters degree. I have been able to draw on the expertise of experienced consultants in infrastructure asset management to develop a project that is of real, practical value to industry.”
Charles was invited to present is work at the 2016 Institute of Asset Management Conference in Edinburgh last week (20-22 June).
Amey has already selected the next students to join the programme and, thanks to the success of the inaugural placement, has committed to continuing the programme next year as well as expanding it as the business continues to grow.
