Jen Yaxley Woman of the Year

Amey's Jen Yaxley wins Young Woman of the Year award

Jen Yaxley, Driver Risk Management Coordinator at Amey, was last week awarded the Young Woman of the Year award at the 2016 Women in Logistics Awards for her role in delivering an effective risk management programme for the leading public service provider's 15000 drivers and 9000 vehicles.

The awards panel commended Yaxley's efforts to consolidate best practice from across the Amey business and centralise all driver risk management policies and procedures to ensure a unified and safer approach. Her ability to utilise available data to target campaigns in priority areas to increase effectiveness was also noted as a key element of her success.

Yaxley's major accomplishments include a full review and distribution of the Amey Driver Handbook, the introduction of electronic licence checks for all Amey drivers to coincide with the abolition of the paper counterpart licence, the creation of a Working Group to bring together key stakeholders from across Amey to drive forward driver risk management initiatives, and the production of fleet safety videos to deliver continued vehicle safety messages within the business.

She has also worked with local communities to deliver vehicle checks, drink driving awareness, motorcycle safety events and road safety which have reached over 2,500 community members.

Speaking after the announcement, Yaxley commented "I am very proud to have been recognised for my achievements so early on in my career but I couldn’t have done it alone. My colleagues from Amey Fleet have supported and encouraged me throughout my development which has allowed me this opportunity to raise the profile of women in our industry whilst striving for improvements in road safety."

Amey's Fleet and Plant Director, Tom Lawless, added "Jen has applied herself using her own initiative to engage colleagues from all business areas and bring transport related health and safety to life. She constantly seeks original ideas to better communicate her messages across Amey, and draws upon her increasing network of experts to assist in the delivery of innovative projects, including a strong female team.

"I'm delighted that her efforts have been recognised in this way by the wider industry and I'd like to personally thank her for all her hard work to promote vehicle and driver safety across Amey. Every one of our drivers and the communities we serve are undoubtedly safer as a result."
