Amey wins award for safety campaign
Amey’s Target Zero safety campaign has won the ‘Most effective use of internal communications’ category at the HR Excellence Awards 2016, beating many well-known household names that were also up for the award.
The campaign was launched in September 2014 to support our corporate health and safety objective of “Keeping people safe, every day”. Since then, Target Zero has featured in every briefing, conference, presentation and edition of our corporate magazine to embed the messaging and culture, as well as featuring in training materials and other visual collateral.
Despite the majority of injuries happening to front line operatives, the campaign is aimed at all employees – as we all have a role to play in keeping each other safe.
The Target Zero campaign aims to maintain continual dialogue between leaders, managers, supervisors and employees about safe behaviour, ensuring they understand their own and each-others’ responsibilities.
Gary Carvell, Group HSEQ Director, said: “Our Target Zero campaign has been really impactful for us, 93% of our employees say that “Amey takes health and safety seriously” but the challenges we face every day mean that we have to be relentless in our pursuit of zero harm”.
In the nature of our work, there is a need to continually engage with employees about safety. This is so we can maintain the appropriate behaviours to reduce injuries down towards zero. Our Internal Communication team worked closely with the Health and Safety team to create the new campaign.
Ian Deninson, Group HR and Communications Director, said: “There is nothing more important than the safety of our employees at Amey and we are very proud of the impact Target Zero has had within our business. It has helped to raise awareness and encourages everyone to stop and think about the actions and behaviours which contribute to potentially unsafe acts or conditions and consider how these can be prevented.”
