Amey’s £300m Area 7 contract goes live

Amey has launched its new Maintenance and Response contract in Area 7 for Highways England.

The contract, which could be worth £300m over 15 years, will see us responsible for maintaining routes through Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. We will also be looking after stretches of the M1 motorway, as well as the M69, M45 and M6. It is one of Highways England’s busiest networks.

Area 7 will see Highways England pilot a new in-house management approach. As the maintenance and response provider, we will be providing routine and cyclic maintenance, defect repairs, emergency incident response, traffic management and severe weather service. We also manage Areas 6 and 8 on behalf of Highways England which means we now maintain and manage some of the most significant and busiest routes across the East of England.

Our Area 7 team have been working closely with Highways England and other key suppliers to create a collaborative community, with shared values around safety and performance.

James Haluch, Managing Director for Highways, said: “I’d like to thank everyone for their hard work to ensure mobilisation of Area 7 has gone as smoothly as possible so we can maintain the first-class service expected by the travelling public. We’re looking forward to continuing to support Highways England in this new delivery model.”

Mike Wilson, Highways England operations director, said: “This new delivery model is symbolic of our commitment to continually drive improvements in how our roads are maintained and operated, so we can provide the best possible quality of service to our customers. We are looking forward to working collaboratively with Amey and our new colleagues from the supply chain over the coming months and years, and believe that this approach will benefit all parties, from the supply chain through to drivers on our roads.”

An official launch of the new contract took place on Tuesday 5th July, attended by James Haluch and Tim Harbot, Regional Director from Highways England at Area 7’s Sandiacre depot, near Nottingham.
