Amey North Transport Awards 2016

Amey named northern transport supplier of the year

Leading public and regulated services provider Amey has been named Supplier of the Year at the North of England Transport Awards.

The award recognises the outstanding contribution made by a supplier of equipment and services to the rail, light rail, bus and roads sectors in the North of England.

Amongst many examples of outstanding work in the region, Amey’s efforts to support the West Yorkshire community of Calderdale were praised after bad weather badly affected the area. Amey employees from across the region worked tirelessly to distribute sandbags, manage road closures and diversions, clean gullies and sweep roads following flooding on Boxing Day 2015.

Other examples of outstanding work included our innovative traffic and cycle signals in Liverpool that use the latest thermal imaging technology to improve traffic flow and keep cyclists safe, and our management of street lights in Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool and Wakefield. In these cities we have significantly reduced costs for clients while using environmentally friendly technology. Our 25-year partnership with Sheffield City Council, Streetsahead, is also currently improving the city’s highways network.

Meanwhile in the rail sector, where Amey is one of Network Rail’s largest suppliers, in January 2016 we completed a complex track renewal project at the King Edward Bridge on the East Coast Main Line between Newcastle and Gateshead as part of the S&C North Alliance. This project was completed on time, delivered savings for our client with minimal disruption for rail users.

James Haluch, Amey’s Managing Director for Highways, said: “We are immensely proud to win this award, which recognises our many contributions to both the highways and rail industries. Our depth of knowledge in the transport sector and our highly skilled workforce mean that we are one of the most trusted suppliers in the North of England. We look forward to building on our partnerships here in the coming years as we support local communities and economies in the region.”
