Amey's Christina Jackson shines at Women in Construction and Engineering Awards
An outstanding, female engineer from leading infrastructure services provider Amey has been awarded the ‘Lifetime achievement in engineering’ at the Women in Construction and Engineering (WICE) Awards.
Christina Jackson, Technical Director at Amey, was recognised for her 37 years of dedication to civil engineering consultancy including her academic and technical success. The awards also highlighted her passion for raising the profile of civil engineering and her commitment to mentoring the next generation of engineers.
The prestigious event was held in London and also saw two of Amey’s young Engineers selected as finalists for ‘Best young woman in construction’ and ‘Best young woman engineer’ categories.
David Spencer, Managing Director of Amey’s engineering consultancy business said “This award is a fantastic achievement for Christina and we are delighted that the women in our business are being formally recognised by the WICE awards. We are extremely proud to have some excellent leaders amongst the women in our business at Amey - who are proactively influencing our business at a variety of levels.”
Speaking of her success, Christina Jackson, Technical Director for Amey said: “I am delighted to have won this award. Civil engineering deals with the infrastructure that supports our daily life and we really need a diverse talent pool to develop the engineers and technicians who can respond to the rapidly changing demands in our society.”
Across the business, Amey has established a ‘Women in STEM’ steering group to develop and coordinate activities to promote the representation of women in engineering. We have ring-fenced apprentice, technician and graduate vacancies for women; signed-up to the WISE and Royal Academy of Engineering 10 steps; and set formal targets for addressing aspects of gender inequality.
Kate Litton, HR Director for Amey said: “Our regional Women in Engineering groups are led by some of the brightest women in our sector, who deliver a wide range of activities with professional engineering institutions, universities and schools – both nationally and locally.”
