Amey awarded £40m smart metering contract with EDF Energy
Leading public and regulated services provider Amey has been awarded a smart metering contract with EDF Energy worth a potential value of around £40m over the next four years.
The win will see Amey installing and maintaining the new style ‘smart’ electricity and gas meters across Scotland, the North East and Eastern England as part of a Government backed initiative. These meters help customers have a better understanding and control of their bills, as well as an end to estimated billing.
Mel Ewell, Amey’s Chief Executive said: “This contract award consolidates Amey’s position as a key partner to the energy industry. I am delighted we will be able to use our skills and experience to ensure an efficient roll out of the new smart meters that could help EDF Energy’s customers save money and monitor their energy consumption.”
Steve Moore from EDF Energy added: “EDF Energy’s Smart Metering programme focuses on providing customers with an excellent customer service in the most efficient way. We have already installed several thousand Smart meters to date as part of trials, designed to test how customers use their meters and our readiness to deploy them. Amey have a Zero Harm culture; something very important to us here at EDF Energy and we’re looking forward to working alongside Amey to further our Smart meter deployment.”
Through Amey’s National Skill Academy for Power (NSAP) training centre the company has already placed over 100 employees through its training course. This contract award will further extend the programme, giving employees the opportunity to progress their career as well as learning specific skills in both gas and electricity smart meter installations.
This is the second smart metering contract Amey has been awarded by an energy supplier, with the first being awarded by nPower in July 2014.
