Amey secures Australian Road Asset Management Contract

Leading UK public and regulated services provider Amey has secured its first major contract in Australia.  Queensland Government Department Transport & Main Roads has awarded Amey, and its joint venture partners, with a road infrastructure contract worth up to £80M ($135M Australian).

Amey will deliver the contract in joint venture with leading Australian infrastructure companies; Leighton Contractors and Boral Construction Materials. The joint venture brings together Amey’s recognised international asset and network management expertise together with Leighton and Boral’s local knowledge and experience.

Under the five-year Road Asset Management Contract (RAMC) for the South Coast Region of South East Queensland the joint venture will maintain and improve over 1000 kilometres of network, including over 650 kilometres of state and national roads.  The network stretches from the south of Brisbane’s metro district to the New South Wales border, and includes the Gold Coast where the 2018 Commonwealth Games will be held.

Mel Ewell, Amey’s chief executive, said: “This is the first Australian contract that Amey has secured and we are proud to bring UK engineering services to Australia.  We continue to increase our presence and portfolio overseas through our world-leading asset management expertise in our Consulting business.  I’m delighted to have won this deal and look forward to working with Transport & Main Roads, and our partners in Australia, to deliver excellence in road asset management for the people of Queensland.”

The contract scope extends to asset management, including identification and design of improvement schemes, delivery of programmed and rehabilitation schemes, routine maintenance and 24/7 incident response. Routine maintenance and incident response activities commence at the end of November followed by the adoption of the full contract remit in January 2014 through to June 2018.

The joint venture offers almost 30 years of network management experience to improve the quality of roads through international asset management expertise delivered by Amey’s local joint venture partners’ knowledge and experience.

International growth is a key focus for Amey’s consulting business, building on the back of a strong and sustainable offering in the UK that is now being recognised by clients and partners internationally.  Amey has interests in the Middle East as well as Australia and is providing leading solutions to new geographies where there is demand for its professional consultancy services and asset management expertise.

Amey provides services to national and state government infrastructure organisations through a range of frameworks; independently, in joint venture with local organisations, and in partnership with other Ferrovial companies.
