Calderdale Team Celebrates National Success

GOING for gold – Amey, which looks after Calderdale’s 1,090 km road network, is celebrating after winning a national award.

For the second year running, Amey has been recognised as part of the Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Awards.

Last year Amey secured a national Silver Award and this year is hoping to go one better by getting a gold.

Amey – which works in partnership with Calderdale Council to deliver highway services, street lighting and winter maintenance – has been notified of the national success, but won’t find out whether it’s a gold, silver or bronze award until an official ceremony in March.

The Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Awards are issued annually to companies who show excellent standards of consideration towards their workforce, neighbours and the environment.

Of the 8,500 sites across the UK who are eligible for the awards, they are only presented to the top performing 7.5% of sites inspected by the scheme’s monitors.

Amey - which operates out of depots in Halifax and Mytholmroyd - was recognised for areas such as employee safety, updating residents about planned works, recycling of kerbs and concrete and supporting traffic management for a Royal visit to Todmorden, with the scheme monitor commenting: “The performance of this depot and the attention to the environment never stands still.”

Stuart Nichols, Amey’s Account Manager, said: “We work across one of the most picturesque yet topographically challenging and remote areas of England, undertaking all types of highway maintenance and operating around the clock.

“We always take into account those who live and work alongside us and are delighted our team has been recognised for this.”

The Considerate Constructors Scheme’s Chief Executive, Edward Hardy, added: “These award ceremonies give us the opportunity to recognise the outstanding efforts made by contractors in reaching the very highest standards of consideration. This year we have seen some exceptional sites.”

Amey has more than 60 staff based across Calderdale and will now receive the award at a ceremony in Manchester on 29 March.
