Amey Wins National Award for Looking After Its Employees

Leading infrastructure services provider Amey, has won a leading Human Resources award for the way it manages and motivates its employees. 

The company’s HR professionals were named ‘Team of the Year’ at the prestigious Employee Benefits Awards 2011, in recognition of the way they deliver pioneering development, wellbeing and benefits programmes for their employees.

Valerie Hughes-D’Aeth, Group HR Director at Amey said: “At Amey, we recognise that people are our greatest asset, and we are delighted that this commitment has been recognised by Employee Benefits magazine – a champion of best practice in Human Resources.

“Amey is a dynamic, innovative company which delivers many complex HR projects which have included TUPE transferring almost 2,000 employees into the company from more than 25 different organisations over the last year. A strong HR offering is therefore essential for Amey, and we believe in doing everything we can to develop and maintain a happy, productive workforce.”

The award win comes just days after Amey was named Large Company of the Year at the Scottish Business in The Community Awards for helping to get long term unemployed people and ex-offenders get back into work.

Looking after people

Judges from Employee Benefits recognised that Amey was the first company of it’s kind to implement a comprehensive wellbeing programme aimed at improving the emotional resilience of staff.

A network of 75 Wellbeing champions across the business help deliver health promotions and awareness campaigns, relaxation sessions, healthy eating plans and smoking cessation clinics. As a result, sickness absence has reduced across the company.

Helping people to fulfil their potential

The judging panel also praised Amey’s ‘Career Path Framework’ – a simple map which shows how individuals fit into the big picture at Amey. The framework ensures that all of Amey’s employees understand their position in the company and the expectations of their role. The framework has successfully aided employees in fulfilling their potential by highlighting the future career opportunities that are available to them, and supporting them in identifying their next move.

Giving something extra

The flexible benefits plan, Choices, was also recognised. It allows employees to select rewards that appeal to them individually. Benefits on offer include options to buy additional days of holiday as well as discounted health plans, insurance and subsidised bikes. Employees can also sign up to receive consumer discounts on holidays and high street stores.
