Highways technology contract goes to Amey and URS/Scott Wilson

Amey and URS/Scott Wilson have won a four-year contract to manage, maintain and improve the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) throughout Wales. This includes all the associated telecommunications and tunnel systems for the entire motorway and trunk road network in Wales.

The contract starts in July and will see Amey and URS/Scott Wilson managing a wide range of motorway technology including telephones, signals, CCTV cameras and the two traffic management centres.

Minister for Transport, Carl Sargeant, said: " The use and effective management of motorway technology such as CCTV cameras, signals and telecommunications are becoming an ever increasingly important tool for further improving safety and reducing congestion on our trunk roads."

"This contract will enable the existing network of technology on the Welsh Government’s trunk roads and motorways - including both traffic management centres -  to be continued and further developed for the benefit of the travelling public."

Mel Ewell, Chief Executive of Amey said: “Amey will be using its extensive experience in delivering highways technology solutions to provide a highly efficient service. By combining this expertise with URS/Scott Wilson’s local knowledge we can deliver an effective service tailored to meet the needs of road users in Wales.”

Jerome Munro-Lafon, UK & Ireland Managing Director for URS/Scott Wilson said: “We are world leaders in this sector. Through our global network across 40 countries, we have the ability to bring world-class capability and deliver it locally. We are very excited about working with Amey and the Welsh Government on this prestigious project.”
