Amey wins Road Safety Scheme Award

Amey, working in partnership with Hampshire County Council, has won a prestigious Highways Magazine Excellence Award for its innovative ‘Village 30’ project.

The awards, presented at a ceremony in London on 20th October, celebrate the examples of excellence, innovation and best practice from across the industry.

Village 30 was introduced to reduce speed limits in over 100 Hampshire villages and thereby enhance the quality of life of residents. Innovative techniques were used to promote the scheme such as advertising on wheelie bins and sandwich bags.

The partnership has also been awarded a Prince Michael of Kent Road Safety Award for the same scheme.
Chris Morris, Service Director at Amey said “To win two such prestigious awards is a fantastic achievement. They are recognition of all the hard work and dedication shown by the staff involved in the planning and implementation of the scheme. The scheme was a great example of effective partnership working.

“Amey, Hampshire County Council, Parish Councils and the Police all worked together to deliver a scheme which has made a real difference to people’s everyday lives”.

Cllr Mel Kendal, from Hampshire County Council added: “The award demonstrates the high standards to which our officers and members work. Village 30 was important to local residents and we introduced it as quickly as possible.”
