Amey launches Cycle to Work initiative on Oxford Science Park

Amey one of the UK’s leading public services providers has launched a ‘cycle2work’ scheme along with Oxford Science Park to promote health and well being as well as supporting the Cleaner, Greener Oxford Campaign led by Councillor John Tanner.

The event is being held at Amey’s Head office on Oxford Science Park and all companies located there were invited to attend.

The event is being hosted by Cllr John Tanner who represents Littlemore which includes the Science Park, with the aim of promoting the benefits of cycling, and encouraging more people who live locally to leave their cars at home and cycle to work.

Cllr John Tanner commented: “This is an excellent initiative by Oxford-based Amey. Encouraging people to cycle to work reduces congestion, cuts pollution during the rush hour and makes for a healthier workforce.”

On the day Amey handed out a number of goody bags filled with cycling accessories, including energy bars, bottles of water and high vis clips for bikes and clothing.

There are opportunities to meet local organisations who will talk about starting cycling around Oxford, the best routes around the area for leisure or commuting and training courses to increase your cycle confidence.

Keith Sexton health, safety and environment director at Amey commented: “We are delighted to be able to launch the cycle2work scheme and promote the benefits to other companies on the Science Park. As well as making a contribution to reducing our carbon footprint, cycling to work is a healthier option and helps to maintain fitness levels of our employees.”

Amey’s ‘Cycle2Work’ is an employee benefit that offers Amey employees a tax-efficient way to obtain a bike to use for cycling to work as part of the Government’s green transport policy.
