Amey’s 2009 order-book wins reach c£4bn

Amey, one of the UK’s leading public services providers, has today announced that it is in-line to achieve c£4bn of additional order book wins in 2009 alone – cementing the company’s position as a business that is out-performing the recession.

The recent increase follows the decision by Network Rail to award Amey, in joint venture with Colas, preferred bidder status for its £250m High Output Track Renewals contract. High Output Track Renewal work is an essential element of Network Rail’s plans to reduce costs and provide rail users with a better service. Using the latest technology systems, these services typically reduce what would conventionally take a weekend into an overnight job.

Amey already provides a number of services for Network Rail, including design, advisory and inspection services in the areas of signalling, electrification and power, track and civil engineering structures, as well as installation, renewals and enhancements services in those disciplines too. Recently, Amey was awarded responsibility for Network Rail’s Civil Examination Framework Agreement (CEFA) in all five of Network Rail’s geographical territories, making the company one of Network Rail’s key partners.

In total, Amey has secured around 90 project wins so far in 2009. The most recent include the North East TechMAC contract and the Area 9 MAC contract, where Amey has assumed sole responsibility for the management and maintenance of the motorways and trunk roads in the West Midlands. Additionally, Amey has recently been announced as preferred bidder for the Birmingham Highways PFI – the UK’s largest Local Government Highway sector PFI. 

These successes mean Amey is actively recruiting to increase its headcount in the coming year, bucking the recessionary trend by taking on an additional 1,000 new employees to supplement the current 11,000 around the UK.  Furthermore, the company is continuing in its drive to recruit quality graduates, and is maintaining investment in its programme.
