Amey announced as a finalist in the National Business Awards

Amey shortlisted for the Employer of the Year Award 2009

Leading public services company Amey has been shortlisted for the Employer of the Year category in the 2009 National Business Awards. The award will go to the organisation that can best demonstrate how it has applied its human and supporting resources to achieve commercial success, through well-adopted company values, the provision of stimulating and supportive workplaces and the active development of all employees.

Amey has transformed significantly in recent years and its people agenda has never been more important. This year the company has significantly improved employee engagement by investing in a robust engagement campaign, which has been externally accredited three times in 2009, including:-

Kingston Business School Survey: An employee engagement consortium, sponsored by the CIPD, concluded that ‘80% of Amey people feel highly engaged on a daily basis.’

Investors in People assessment – May 2009: Amey was awarded silver status – to date less than 1% of organisations have achieved this.

MacLeod review of employee engagement: Amey featured as a case study in a recent government review which highlights the importance of employee engagement to the recovery of the UK economy.

During 2009, Amey’s headcount is expected to grow by at least 30% through a combination of TUPE transfers and external recruitment, taking the total figure from 8,771 in January 2009 to around 12,000 by the end of 2010.

Finalists will as of today prepare to deliver their presentations in person before the National Business Awards’ independent expert judging panel. “To reach the final stage of the UK’s most important business recognition programme is an enormous achievement. It is companies like these, who are bucking the economic trend and delivering excellent results that will benefit most when the upturn finally comes. It will be fascinating to see which companies walk away with the awards in November”, said Martin Lyne, Director for Small and Medium Enterprise for headline sponsor, Orange.

Winners will be unveiled at a glittering gala award ceremony on 10th November at the Grosvenor House hotel in London.
