Amey donates furniture to local Oxfordshire schools

Amey, one of the UK’s leading public services companies has donated a number of items of furniture to two local Oxfordshire high schools after recently undergoing a refurbishment at their offices on the Science Park.

The refurbishment lead to an excess of unwanted furniture including chairs and storage units, which would normally have been thrown away, however Amey looked to ways to recycle the items and put them to use somewhere else.

Amey made contact with two local Oxfordshire schools, Didcot Girls School and Chipping Norton School who gladly accepted the furniture. The furniture is now being used in the music department at Chipping Norton School, and was so popular at Didcot Girls School that even the Head wanted the chairs for his office.

Nigel Sellars, Deputy Head Teacher at Chipping Norton School said, “The furniture has been put to excellent use within the school and has been adapted for a number of different uses. In one area it has been adapted for storage of musical instruments, and in another it has been adapted to create keyboard benching around the room. Both staff and pupils alike have commented on how useful and professional the furniture looks.”

Anna Foster, Facilities Manager at Amey said: “It would be a shame to see the excess furniture go to waste. By donating it to local schools ensures that the furniture is put to good use.”

Amey as a business is always looking to ways to work with local community, and reduce the environmental impact of its business through reducing waste and improving recycling rates.
