Amey announces the appointment of Valerie Hughes-D’Aeth as Group HR Director

Amey, one of the UK’s leading support services partners, has appointed Valerie Hughes-D’Aeth to the role of Group HR Director, effective from March 2, 2009.

Bringing more than 25 years’ experience in employee engagement and transformation, Valerie will be leading Amey’s award-winning HR function, which provides support for Amey’s 9,000 employees throughout the UK.

Prior to joining Amey, Valerie held the position of Group HR Director at Steria where she was a member of the Executive Committee with responsibility for developing and implementing the global HR strategy. She had previously been Group HR Director at Xansa (who were acquired by Steria in 2007). During her 11 years at Xansa she led a major award winning HR transformation programme and drove the company’s growth through acquisition and leading edge HR practices from 1,000 to 10,000 employees. Prior to working at Xansa she spent 12 years with EDS in a variety of HR roles including UK HR Director.

Valerie says of her appointment: “Amey has a diverse business and employee base and I’m very excited to be joining this growing company. This is a difficult time for all sectors, but employee engagement and learning and development must remain top of the agenda so that we continue to equip our employees with the skills and competencies to deliver great services to our customers.”

Mel Ewell, Chief Executive of Amey, added: “HR is a function of great strategic importance at Amey. We believe our people are our strength and remain committed to investing in our staff to ensure they receive the best training and development, and work in an environment that both rewards and challenges them. Valerie brings with her a wealth of experience and I believe she will be able to build on our already strong HR offering.”

Valerie replaces Gillian Duggan, former HR Director of Amey who has moved to the role of Managing Director of Amey’s Built Environment Division.
