New executive chair for Environmental Partnership
Be Birmingham’s Environmental Partnership has appointed Keith Sexton, group health, safety, environment and quality director of Amey Plc as the new executive chair of the Birmingham Environmental Partnership. He represents the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce & Industry on the board.
Keith has worked in the environmental field for almost 20 years in variety of industries. He is a chartered environmentalist and has a degree in engineering and a masters degree in environmental management.
Commenting on his appointment Keith said: “We need to be able to paint a positive picture for people of a more sustainable future, and one that connects with ordinary, everyday life. No approach based mainly on threats, hardship and global catastrophe is going to inspire action.
This is therefore an important time for the partnership. Many of the environmental problems we are facing are complex and interlinked. They can only be solved by coordinated action by many different groups of people. The bodies represented on the partnership give us an opportunity both to influence the big strategic issues, and also an ability to stimulate small positive changes in the way large sections of our community live, work and travel.”
Keith joins a number of partners who are working together to deliver a more environmentally sustainable city. Birmingham’s Environmental Partnership’s key priorities in 2009 are to reduce the amount of refuse waste the city produces, along with trying to reduce graffiti and CO2 emissions. Being prepared for a changing climate is also an area of work the partnership will increase their effort on.
Councillor Len Gregory, chairman of Birmingham Environmental Partnership commented: "We are delighted to have Keith join us as executive chair of the partnership. He has immense knowledge and experience which will help make Birmingham a truly sustainable city."
