Amey / VT: MoD wins 'Best Operational Defence Scheme' for C Vehicle Capability Project

The Ministry of Defence (MoD), with its partners Amey and VT Group, the support services providers, were named winner of the ‘Best Operational Defence Scheme’ for its C Vehicle project at the annual Public Private Finance Awards.

Amey and VT Group won the MOD project last year as part of a joint venture known as ALC. The award was presented to Hamish Knox, ALC’s Managing Director, and Mark Warren of MOD, by the Rt Hon Michael Portillo.

The award was won due to the exemplary partnership and fully integrated approach between the MoD and ALC. The partnership is viewed by the MoD as a pathfinder for its future Whole Fleet Management programme and has broken new ground in the integration of the private sector with core military activities.

Mel Ewell, CEO of Amey commented that “The partnership has pushed the boundaries of what a PFI can provide. Utilising a real partnering ethos we are providing a service that integrates seamlessly with the MOD. This means we can deliver the high degree of flexibility needed, to serve the continually changing requirements of the military. I would like to congratulate everyone involved – it highlights clearly our continuing dedication to great customer service.”

VT Group Chief Executive Paul Lester added: “The C Vehicle contract is a successful example of industry and Government working together to deliver enhanced capability. The output ensures that the military gets the right equipment in the right place at the right time to carry out the challenging tasks that it currently faces in several different theatres.”

The project is worth in excess of £500 million over a 15 year period and provides the MoD with a wide range of construction and field mechanical handling equipment, operated worldwide largely by the Royal Engineers and the Royal Logistics Corps. The focus of the contract involves meeting military requirements through a management information system operating within the defence information infrastructure.
