Amey to look after York's Street Lights
City of York Council has extended its partnership with support services provider Amey to maintain York’s 20,000 street lights and illuminated signs to at least the end of March 2010.
The appointment involves a joint partnership between Amey and City of York Council to design and manage the city’s street lights. Amey has been providing street lighting services for City of York Council for over six years. Throughout their long-standing partnership they have achieved outstanding quality and value for the council. This, along with other key factors, has led to the Council extending its partnership. Amey will be using innovative solutions and the latest energy saving technology together with operational efficiencies to improve customer satisfaction and best value.
Street lights are an important aspect of any community and like all community facilities they have to be planned and designed around the community they serve. Improved street lighting can improve safety, aid social inclusion and have wider socio-economic benefits.
Mel Ewell, Chief Executive, Amey, said: "I am extremely pleased that we have further developed our partnership with City of York Council. By providing a first class street lighting service we will help the council to develop safer communities and regenerate the urban environment.”
