Amey Awarded Bedfordshire Highways Contract Extension

Bedfordshire Highways, a partnership between Bedfordshire County Council and Amey, was initially awarded the contract in October 2005, based on an extendable term of five-and-a-half years. The value of the agreement is estimated at £20 million per annum and includes four main services: network management, network engineering, business management and fleet maintenance. This is the first extension to the contract.

Within the existing contract, Amey offers single-point responsibility for a fully integrated, end-to-end service, that since 2005, has transformed the operation into one that is recognised by public and politicians alike for its track record of innovation and improvement. Mel Ewell, Chief Executive, Amey commented: “We have been working very hard to ensure we engage with the local community and deliver an excellent service for our client. As we enter the next phase of the partnership, we will continue to work closely with Bedfordshire County Council to further excel against their objectives and play our part in the development of truly effective public services.”

Director of environment at Bedfordshire County Council, Huw Jones, commented: "I am pleased to award the first contract extension to Bedfordshire Highways. Staff have worked extremely hard, and their efforts have all contributed to the success of this partnership.”

Councillor Tom Wootton, Cabinet Member for Highways and Waste, commented: “I am very pleased that Bedfordshire Highways have been awarded its first contract extension. This is very much due to the innovative partnership between Bedfordshire County Council and Amey. Bedfordshire Highways has strived and continues to work closely with key stakeholders in order to deliver the best possible service and solutions.”
