Amey wins second five year contract to manage South West Scotland's trunk road network

Amey is delighted to announce that the company has been awarded its second five-year contract to manage and maintain the trunk roads network in south west Scotland.

Amey has managed the trunk roads networks in south east and south west Scotland, on behalf of the Scottish Executive, since April 2001. The new contract will start in Spring 2006, when Amey will be responsible for managing and maintaining the motorway and trunk road network. Working with Transport Scotland, Amey will support the delivery of the Scottish Executives’ transport and infrastructure programme, enhancing the Scottish trunk road network and improving road safety.

The company also provides maintenance and specialist intelligent transport system development services for the Scottish Executive’s National Driver Information and Control System (NADICS).

Mel Ewell, chief executive of Amey, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this second, consecutive five-year contract. This award demonstrates recognition of our breadth of transport sector expertise and the efficient, cost-effective service provided by our dedicated, locally based teams. Amey recognises the crucial importance to the Scottish economy of an efficient, well-functioning transport infrastructure."

“We are proud of the innovations which we have introduced to help keep the network working at maximum efficiency, in particular our Incident Support Units, Operational Control Room, and the development of emergency standard diversion routes. All of which have proved very popular with the police, local authorities, motoring organisations and indeed the motoring public."

“This is an exciting time for Amey in Scotland as we take forward the clear opportunities within the new contract which will ensure continued improvements to Customer Care, a greater role in network operations and the necessary enhancements of systems."

“Our experienced teams have the specialist knowledge, resources and expertise to meet the Scottish Executive’s stringent requirements for the future, and we look ahead to deliver Amey’s trademark excellent service over the next five years.”
