Amey Infrastructure Services wins GIS inventory project for Scottish Executive

Amey Infrastructure Services has started work on a £1 million project to upgrade the highway inventory on behalf of the Scottish Executive. The project covers roads in both the south east and south west of the country, which are already managed by Amey. A total of 1,794 kilometres of carriageway will be surveyed.

As usual, Amey will use the latest IT to help deliver this project. The information gathered will be stored on hand-held IPAQs and GPS will provide a level of accuracy of between one and two metres. The information will then be downloaded and reproduced in a Geographical Information System (GIS), supported by software especially adapted by Amey. The Scottish Executive and operational staff will be able to see a map on their PCs via an intranet and interrogate all aspects of the highway inventory, such as street lighting, road markings and landscaping.
