Amey’s BSI success

Amey Highways also achieved certification to OHSAS 18001 for safety management systems and practice, and now operates a fully integrated management system. This strategy is likely to be followed by the other business units.

BSI’s Management Systems’ managing director, Neil Hannah, commented: “The implementation of these integrated management systems is designed to make businesses continually more responsive to customer needs, stimulating innovation and being more responsive towards employees’ well being.  Amey is a large and complex group of businesses, employing some 7,000 people at more than 100 sites across the UK, so it’s all the more impressive that the company has made such progress.  We congratulate them.”

Mel Ewell, Chief Executive of the Amey Group, said “These awards confirm our commitment to achieving excellence in everything we do, and are part of what we see as an ongoing process of measurement and improvement, not the end of that process.”

Amey plc, the business services and transportation infrastructure specialist, begins 2004 with full certification to ISO 9001:2000 for quality management systems and ISO 14001 for environmental management across the whole Group.  The standards are awarded by the BSI Group – the international standards body – and demonstrate Amey’s ability to manage effectively its customer and supplier relationships, and its impact on the environment.

Each of Amey’s business units, Highways, Rail, Fleet Services and Business Services, has systematically worked towards individual certification during the past two years.  The culmination of this process was the achievement of certification by Amey plc, reflecting the linkage of the business units within the Group. This places Amey amongst the top support services providers for its demonstration of commitment to continual improvement.
